Imperfect Workshop: Owning Your Voice

In this 2-hour online workshop, we will practice speaking up, articulating your expert opinion, and presenting your recommendations in ways that are resonant and respectful to your audience. We will cover: Owning your voice. You’re the expert! What do you recommend and why should I trust you? Boundaries, Relevance, & Recommendations Exercise + skill building re: how to advocate for yourself and your team respectfully How do we make this real? We will practice: Speaking up about your extensive expertise​/​qualifications (i.e. I’ve been called out​/​shamed for earning my doctorate; now I feel uncomfortable bringing it up.) Speaking up without seeming to be irritated because I am the only person of color, or only person speaking on behalf of other marginalized communities Speaking up in situations when there’s misalignment Saying: This is my recommendation, and I’m comfortable it. I’m also comfortable if you decide to proceed in your own direction Offering my perspective, without over-explaining Offering a recommendation without expectations that others must​/​should follow my recommendation. Sharing my opinion without coming across as “too direct" Who is this class for? Social impact and nonprofit professionals Emerging leaders ready to use their voice Anyone waiting for the “perfect” moment to arise before they advocate for themselves This class is limited to six attendees. Confidentiality between attendees is required. Nothing will be recorded.
